Additional Coaching Staff
In addition to our full time staff, Gemini Gymnastics also employs a range of excellent part-time coaches who coach in all our programs. All recreational coaches are minimum certified NCCP level one and our competitive coaches are minimum certified NCCP level two.
Ruth Moriana – Associate Coach
Ruth was born in Germiston, South Africa and came to Canada when she was 9 years old. She started recreational gymnastics at 12 and then a year later, she started competing. She was a competitive gymnast at the regional level until she reached the age of 17. Ruth began coaching gymnastics when she turned 14 years old and received her coaching diploma from Douglas College in Coquitlam, B.C. She has worked for some of Canada’s top gym clubs and has coached at all levels of gymnastics from parent and tot to boys competitive gymnastics. Ruth is a fully certified Level 3 NCCP coach and has completed 2 Level 4 modules.
Ruth recently came to Gemini and is coaching provincial level 5-9, and national level athletes. In addition, she provides choreography for Gemini’s competitive programs.
Talyn Andrews – Associate Coach
Talyn was born in Oshawa and trained at Gemini for many years as a Provincial Level gymnast. She obtained a 4-year health science degree at the University of Western Ontario and is currently in her 2nd year of nursing at Durham College. In addition, she is a personal trainer certified through Can-Fit-Pro 2007, and is certified in CPR and first aid through the Canadian Red Cross.
Talyn is a fully certified Level 1 NCCP gymnastics coach and has coached at Gemini for almost 10 years. Currently, she coaches the Advanced Kindergym and Precomp athletes.
Kathy Penhale – Recreational Director and Associate Coach
Kathy was born and raised in Oshawa, Ontario. She trained as a provincial level athlete at Gemini Gymnastics during her younger years and trained as a competitive gymnast. She graduated with honours from Durham College in the Early Childhood Education program. Kathy is a fully certified Level 2 NCCP gymnastics coach with Level 1 Trampoline, First Aid and CPR.
Kathy has been coaching at Gemini Gymnastics since 2000, became the Recreational Program Director in 2008.
Kimberly Allison – Associate Coach
Kimberly was born and raised in Peterborough, Ontario. She started training as a coach at the age of 14, and has been coaching ever since with over 20 years of experience in almost all levels of the sport. Kimberly is a fully certified NCCP Level 2 coach, working towards completion of her Level 3. She also has Level 2 Trampoline, and is a Level 3 Judge. Kimberly received her 15-Year Gold Service Pin from Gymnastics Ontario in 2009. She studied Advanced Gymnastics Coaching Techniques at Seneca College, and has experience coaching in the US. She has training in the Cecchetti Method of Ballet, and has taken classes from Frank Augustyn and Karen Kain. Kimberly is currently in her second year of studies towards a Bachelor of Science Degree in Psychology at Trent University.
