Seven Gemini gymnasts were named to Team Ontario to compete at Eastern Championships based upon their results at provincial qualifiers in the 2011 – 2012 competetive season. 

Brianna Sheridan won Gold AA, Meixi Semple Silver AA, and Danae Fox, Alexandria Vanelst, Daijha Heron Bronze AA, with Breanna Ho and Cailey Shewchuck with 4^th AA.

The following are the results for the competing athletes.  All also contributed to a team results, except for Alex, where there was not a team entered in that level for Ontario.

Danae Fox:  Novice P3; Silver on Floor, Bronze on Vault and Beam, 6^th on Bars, Bronze All Around.  Team Ontario Gold.

Meixi Semple:  Tyro P4; Gold on Floor, Silver on Bars, 6^th on Beam, 8^th on Vault, Silver All Around. Team Ontario Gold.

Breanna Ho:  Tyro P4; Gold on Bars, Bronze on Vault and Floor, 10^th on Beam, Fourth All Around. Team Ontario Gold.

Alexandrian Vanelst: Tyro P4; Silver on Vault and Floor, Bronze on Bars and Beam, Bronze All Around. 

Cailey Shewchuk: Novice P4, Gold on Beam, 5^th on Floor, 8^th on Bars, 10^th on Vault, 4^th All Around. Team Ontario Gold.

GEMINI DOMINATES THE PODIUM AT THE 2012 ONTARIO GYMNASTICS CHAMPIONSHIPS

Gemini Gymnastics’ athletes were laden with medals during the Ontario Championships held April 19 – 22 in Ottawa. Gemini had 36 of their top athletes earn the right to compete amongst the top ranking girls in their respective divisions from all across Ontario. Gemini added a record eight Ontario Champions to its long list of achievements. Gemini also brought home six All Around Silver Medalists, three All Around Bronze Medalists and 62 Event Medalists. Gemini’s 2012 Ontario Champions were Whitby’s Ashlyn MacDonald, Anne-Marie Padurariu, Meixi Semple, and Brianna Sheridan; Peterborough’s Madisun Storey; Newtonville’s Kailyn Wright; Cobourg’s Kate Current and Oshawa’s Sasha Vedenin.

By ranking in the top four in their category after the qualifying rounds of provincial competition, seven Gemini athletes were also recently named to Team Ontario which will compete at the Eastern Canadian Championships on May 11 – 13^th in Charny, Quebec. The qualifying athletes are Ajax’s Danaé Fox and Breanna Ho; Whitby’s Meixi Semple, Brianna Sheridan and Daijha Heron; Oshawa’s Alexandria Vanelst; and Bowmanville’s Cailey Shewchuk.

Gemini Gymnastics will also be well represented at the Canadian Championships to be held in Regina, Saskatchewan from May 21– 26. In the National Novice category, Gemini’s 10 year old Jade Chrobok qualified for Team Ontario and will compete at her very first Canadian Championships. Oshawa’s Sasha Vedenin, who recently accepted a four-year gymnastics scholarship at the University of Illinois at Chicago, and Bowmanville’s Riley Cholod both qualified for Team Ontario in the National Open category. Junior National Team member, Aleeza Yu of Richmond Hill will compete in the Junior High Performance division and competing in the Senior HP division is Olympic hopeful, Kristina Vaculik of Whitby.

Congratulations to Sasha Vedenin for her gymnastics’ scholarship to University of Illinois at Chicago.  Sasha has signed a letter of intent to attend UIC as a member of the gymnastics team starting in September 2012.

Sasha is the 2012 Ontario Champion – National Open Level and will be competing at Nationals for Team Ontario in Regina in May, 2012.  Sasha was All Around National Open Champion in 2009 and 2010, and National Bronze Medalist in 2011.

UIC competes in NCAA Division 1 and placed 6th in the NCAA Regionals in April 2012.  Coaches Peter and Mary Jansson who have coached the team for 21 seasons were named Regional Coaches of the year. Sasha will join fellow Canadians Cynthia Lemieux, Catherine Dion and Gabrielle May on the UIC Flames Team.  For more information about the team go to UIC Gymnastics.

On April 19, 2012, Elena Davydova, Head Coach and Owner of Gemini Gymnastics was awarded the Ontario Female Coach of the Year Award.  The Female Coach of the Year award is presented annually by the Province of Ontario to Ontario’s premiere female coach.  The individual posseses the qualities associated with performance excellence  and  sport  achievement.

Elena was recognized for her work as coach for Kristina and Natalie Vaculik, who both medaled in international gymnastics events in 2011. Elena was the team coach at the 2011 Pan American Games for the Canadian Team that finished second. She was also the Team Coach at the World Championships for the Canadian Team that finished eleventh and at the Elite Gym Masilia International for the Canadian Team that finished third. Elena also coaches several more athletes that compete at the national and provincial level.

Congratulations to Elena for this wonderful honour!!!

LONDON TEST EVENT:

***Kristina Vaculik helps Team Canada vault their way into the Olympics***

On January 11, 2012, Team Canada placed second over-all at the London Test Event, securing a team spot for the the Canadian Women’s Artistic Gymnastics Team at the 2012 London Olympics.  Gemini’s Kristina Vaculik, coached by Elena Davydova, had a strong showing, finishing 15th overall. 

Kristina also competed in the bars event finals, placing fourth in a very competetive field, coming behind the bronze medalist Yao Jinnan by only .034 points!  A very strongly executed beautiful routine from Kristina!

Looking for a fun way to keep fit?  Gymnastics is perfect for you!  Gymnastics provides exercise, while being the basis for many sports.

Gemini’s fall session starts on September 30  and runs for 19 weeks (please see schedule for holidays and other specifics).  Cost for a 55 minute class is $210, and for an 85 minute class is $300.  A once a year $35 fee for Gymnastics Ontario is also required if not paid since July 1, 2011.  Classes include parent and tot, kindergym, girls and boys classes, tramp, tumble and tramp, acro, and teen rec.  **Please note that HST must now be added to these fees**
